How datacentres are connected

In addition to our existing datacenter “Bunker” we decided to build a second datacenter “Trezor”, where the technology of cooling servers in an oil bath is completely used. The waste heat is then discharged into the municipal swimming pool. At the moment, the construction work has been completed and we are working on the internal infrastructure. At the end of April we blew out the optics. We learned a lot of new things and, of course, recorded everything for you.

Better and stricter filtering of attacks and unnecessary robots in web hosting

In the second half of 2015, we launched our IPS/IDS (Intrusion Prevention Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems). At first it was only tasked with monitoring traffic on our servers (it was an IDS). We were surprised by the huge number of attacks. For example, the number of attacks on the WordPress login page (wp-login.php) averaged 8 per second. Early last week (15.4.2019) we compared it and it was already a whopping 63 attempts per second. And we can only detect activity on HTTP so far. However, more than half of our services already use HTTPS.

How the DC1 modernisation is going – April 2019

Modernization of our first datacenter “Bunker” started last October. It was a long-planned project based on the newly gained experience with the DC2 construction and especially with the currently ongoing TIER IV certification. We had to start thinking differently, find new technologies and also adapt to the technological trends of today and the near future.

The first website shut down under §7b probably didn’t have to be shut down after all

Yesterday, we regret to inform you that we had to shut down the first website under Section 7b. In terms of the letter of the law and the authority used, we had no objection. The request was approved by the public prosecutor, who is under the authority of the judiciary.

First website deleted from the Internet based on the new Section 7b of the Criminal Procedure Code

Today 13. 3. 2019, at 9:56 a.m., we received the first call for immediate shutdown of the website under the new Section 7b of the Criminal Procedure Code, which we have criticized in previous articles. We acted quickly and without delay, as the law dictates.

As we set out to fight for freedom, not just internet freedom – Section 7b needs to be changed!

It started with a visit from the police presidency, who told us in a very graphic way that Section 7b, which allows the police to shut down any website or server or other similar service for up to 90 days, had been quietly passed. Without the consent of the court, the prosecutor, and with complete impunity and without consequences. We did not believe that such a thing was possible in a democratic country. We could have looked away and accepted it, but we decided to speak up. It started with an article You want to destroy the competition? Czech laws are here for you!.

How the construction of our second datacenter is going

We are not afraid to write that our second datacentre will be one of the Czech technological uniquenesses of which we can all be proud. All servers in it will be cooled in an oil bath. This cooling technology is incomparably more economical than air cooling. In addition, it will allow us to move the excess heat to the nearby municipal swimming pool, where we will use it to heat the pool. This way, the bulk of the waste heat is recovered instead of being vented outside.
