According to the official CZ.NIC statistics, on 5 February 2023 we surpassed the 300 thousand registered .cz domains mark. To mark the occasion, we have prepared some interesting numbers about .cz domains.
How time goes .cz domain at WEDOS

Of course, there was much more. We held car contests together, had two truckloads of energy drinks and juices and other promotional items made. Not everything was always so rosy and unlike others, we were not afraid to speak out against the price increase of .cz domains.
And now for the interesting numbers.
.cz domains at WEDOS
We register and renew .cz domains at purchase prices. Which is currently 145 CZK without VAT, whoever sells them cheaper subsidizes it or you pay the difference otherwise. There are no fees for transferring (re-registering) .cz domains.
From 13. 09. 2010 (first registered domain) to 10. 02. 2023 we are:
- In total, they registered 534,282 .cz domains for 599,700 years.
- In total, they extended 1,690,991 .cz domains for 1,777,886 years.
- In total, 229,989 .cz domains were transferred to us and 119,467 were moved away.
It is currently (as of 10.02.2023) with us:
- 287 966.cz domains are active.
- 12 375.cz domains expired.
- 32 .cz domains in other states.
We offer free DNS record keeping for domains registered with us. 258,703.cz domains take advantage of this.
Additional WEDOS services for .cz domains
We offer interesting additional services for .cz domains:
- EWM (Early Warning and Monitoring), is a monitoring and testing system that provides early warning of problems on the site or the domain itself. It is active for 20 402.cz domains (roughly 6.79%).
- The electronic domain ownership certificate, which serves as proof of domain ownership not only for authorities, is active for 341.cz domains.
- A physical domain ownership gift certificate that makes a nice decoration in the office among other certificates. You have a stand for it, there’s a hologram, it’s on a piece of stationery. What more could you ask for?
Furthermore, in cooperation with Pojištení.cz and Slavia pojišt’ovna we offer .cz domains Domain theft insurance with assistance and legal services, but we can’t reveal specific numbers because it’s currently the answer to a question in a competition Competition for the above mentioned physical certificate with 2D hologram and 49 prizes worth 30 000 CZK.
What happens next week on websites with .cz domains
From our central logs, we pulled all traffic on .cz domains during 7 days (February 3 – 9). These are purely logs on hosting services and WMS. That is, traffic that ends up on physical web hosting servers. This traffic is net of proxy traffic, attacks stopped by WEDOS Global Protection, attacks stopped on the filter (blacklists) and attacks on L3 and L4 layers.
Global Statistics
This is traffic from 257,666 sites on our web hosting (or WMS). So there are no VPS and dedicated servers. We consider a website to be any content on the .cz domain and subdomain that returned a status code of 200 (server successfully processed and responded to the request) and 000 (proxy successfully handled the request) to the visitor.
Hosting servers recorded a total of 930,444,156 requests from 3,430,568 unique IP addresses during the week.
74.55% of these requests were made over HTTPS and 67.63% of all IP addresses made at least one request over HTTPS.
Although our web hosts have been able to use HTTP/2 for a long time, most of the accesses went through the older HTTP/1.1. Just for the record, we are playing with HTTP/3 on WEDOS Global. In time, we will deploy it for all who use the service.

As far as IP addresses are concerned, IPv4 leads the way. The vast majority of 96.58% of requests are over IPv4. However, these statistics are quite skewed by customers who use NoLimit to run their own API and make millions of requests per day.

Traffic to .cz domains by country
Most requests come from the Czech Republic, which is not surprising given our dominant position on the Czech market and the fact that the .cz domain is mostly used for Czech websites.
The second place is the USA, the reason being that many third party servers that communicate with our customers’ websites are located here. In January, we added our first point to the US, so customers who use WEDOS Global will have faster communication with these servers.
Slovakia is second in terms of the number of IP addresses, but it is overtaken by France, which is 13th in the number of requests. Instead. Again, it is not the “live” traffic, but the services our customers use.
