Give us your opinion on the new dedicated servers

[gtranslate]

For a long time we have been preparing an updated offer of dedicated servers for our clients. Write us your opinion.

We want to hear your opinion! Let’s come up with the best options on the market.

At the beginning of our existence, i.e. in the autumn of 2010, we prepared an offer of dedicated servers FUJITSU RX100, which we have not updated for a long time. There were several reasons. Priority was given to other services (with higher added value). However, we have been selecting a new solution for about a year now. We’re starting to get the picture. We’ll share our ideas and we’d love to hear from you.

What’s the point? What was the assignment.

We want to offer an unrivalled or very competitive offer (not in terms of the Czech Republic, but let’s say in a Central European or European format).

Our datacenter is empty, it is about one-sixth full, so we have a lot of room for growth. Moreover, we are still toying with the idea of building a second datacenter.

We want everything to be extremely economical, reliable, maintenance-free and simple for our clients. There is power in simplicity.

We want an offer that we don’t have to update every month, but that will last for a year.

We want to have the fastest possible service, practically within a minute of reporting a fault. Yes, we are planning that if a client reports a fault, we will immediately assign another server where he will be able to start his services immediately. So realistically, problems will be solved in minutes. Given our physical presence in our own datacenter, this is realistic. Since our support is available 24/7, this is realistic.

Of course, we want to have a sufficient density of servers within one rack on the whole service.

We want the service to make economic and business sense not only for us but also for our customers. It has to be a win-win.

We want every customer to be able to change the operating system themselves at any time, without our assistance (KVM – remote keyboard, video and mouse as part of the server). We want every customer to be able to remotely access and restart. Although we consider these things to be commonplace, many leading providers around the world and in Europe also charge extra for such things.

We want everything without any obligations, everything without any conditions.

We want everything without measuring the transmitted data. Just no complications on all sides.

What have we been doing all year?

Over the past year, we have tested several different server models that are suitable for running a similar service. We tried several models, we tried different brands. We had long negotiations with suppliers and manufacturers. We’ve had the firmware modified to suit our needs, and now we’ve come to the point where we have our big favourites and are starting to get some clarity.

We tested 1U servers, and we also tested servers with a density of mono-multiples higher (45 servers in 4.33 U). We had different processors, different boards. We chose what we like the most.

What solutions are we planning?

We are planning a solution where there will be a larger number of servers (9-24 in 3U) on a small area, which will have a shared infrastructure (not only power and control, but also switches). This can make it not only economically interesting, but also economical and easy to repair.

We are preparing only 2 variants, which are below. One for less demanding applications that require a dedicated server and the other for more demanding needs.

We’re not planning anything else. We are not planning more powerful machines (where we can rent our current FUJITSU RX300 servers, which we use for virtualization). We are not planning weaker machines or variants with different RAM or different disks. It’s kind of harsh, but it’s (with apologies)“just take it or leave it“.

As a result, we expect our prices to be very, very attractive. Unusually interesting by Czech standards.

We will be glad for your opinions and we can adjust the configurations accordingly.

Option 1

A server that will mostly be enough, as CPU is usually not an issue on any of the servers.

CPU: Intel Atom S1260, 2.0GHz, 1MB Cache, 2 cores, 4 threads – model year 2013 (*)

RAM: 8 GB RAM1333MHz

HDD: 2 pieces SSHD 1TB HDD 2.5″ hybrid (HDD where there is a classic HDD, but part of the capacity – 32GB – is basically an SSD)

RAID: software only

LAN: 1 Gbps port, 50 Mbps guaranteed in the price without any data transfer limitation (to all directions – Czech Republic, Slovakia, abroad), measured according to the percentile methodology of 95%. This allows the server to use 1 Gbps to cover peaks and transfer hundreds of TB of data (**) .

KVM: remote management, remote reboots at any time, reinstallation at any time without our assistance.

Option 2

Server usable for more demanding use.

CPU: server Intel Xeon E3-1230Lv3 – 1.8GHz, 8MB cache, 4 cores, 8 threads – model year 2013 (*)

RAM: 32 GB ECC 1600MHz RAM

HDD: 2 SATA III 1TB 2.5″ HDDs

SSD: 2 pieces 128GB SSD 2.5″

RAID: HW 0, 1, 10

LAN: 1 Gbps port, 100 Mbps guaranteed in the price without limitation of transferred data (to all directions – Czech Republic, Slovakia, abroad), measured according to the percentile methodology of 95%. This allows the server to use 1 Gbps to cover peaks and transfer hundreds of TB of data (**).

KVM: remote management, remote reboots at any time, reinstallation at any time without our assistance.

Information common to all variants

  • the servers have dual power supplies, each via a separate UPS and motor-generator
  • servers in stock
  • online commissioning (immediately after payment the server is ready)
  • no contractual obligations – server can be rented for 1 month or 12 months
  • we have all spare parts in stock
  • service – you will always receive a replacement server withinminutes
  • servers are located in a modern datacenter, the most environmentally friendly in the Czech Republic
  • ISO certification from TÜV SÜD – ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management), ISO 27001 (information security)
  • very low price in relation to the resources and performance offered

Remark:

(*) We have selected the processors specifically with regard to eco-friendly and economical operation. They don’t dazzle with high GHz values, but in our experience processors in servers literally get bored.

(**) With this method of measurement, you can use the capacity of the entire port during peak times, i.e. 1 Gbps, and you may use more than the specified value (100 or 50 Mbps) for up to approximately 5% of the total time within a calendar month. If you use connectivity above 100 (or 50) Mbps for more than 5% of the time, you will be notified and the speed will be limited to 100 (or 50) Mbps or an individual charge will be agreed. There will be no data transfer fees, etc. and so the 100 (or 50) Mbps value is guaranteed for a specific server.
The server can thus use 1 Gbps to cover peaks and transfer hundreds of TB of data and only then, the limit will be set.

Service parameters

  • OS-independent management via WWW, KVM, restarts (see below)
  • full administrator access (root, Administrator)
  • any operating system can be installed – you can install it yourself according to your choice from the connected CD/DVD via KVM
  • set up in 1 minute
  • NONSTOP customer support by chat and email and phone
  • NONSTOP hardware service, 24/7 repair – online – we provide a spare server
  • free replacement of broken HW
  • unlimited data transfer, 1 Gbps connection
  • real data center connectivity 3 x 10 Gbps
  • 99.99% availability
  • 1 fixed public IPv4 address
  • IPv6 connectivity – 65 thousand addresses, or. /64 subnet (more info)
  • DNS management for an unlimited number of domains
  • without backup ( WEDOS Disk can be purchased)

Server Management

  • independent of the operating system – functional even when the server is switched off, functional even when the OS is “dead”
  • access via WWW interface
  • switching on, switching off and restarting the server
  • KVM – monitor, keyboard, mouse, remote CD/DVD, ISO image and USB disk connection (more info)
  • monitoring of the status of all components, power consumption, temperature

When will it be?

Soon. We expect to announce pricing and configurations in December. Depending on interest, we will launch the offer with a basic offer (and some limited ones) in early 2014 (during the winter). So don’t order elsewhere anymore, but give notice elsewhere 🙂
