In February, we launched the global WEDOS ARM expansion campaign. We approached nearly 2000 datacenters, IXPs and major ISPs with the request to “densify” our WEDOS Global infrastructure.
New sites will run on ARM servers
After a few months of testing, we have proven that most sites can run on the HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11 super performance servers with the Ampere Altra Max M128-30 ARM processor. Each has 4 TB of RAM and up to 160 TB of storage space. We plan to have several of them in every country in Europe.
During Christmas, the busiest point of WEDOS Global (i.e. Hluboká) was running solely on 1 ARM server, which was able to handle the entire traffic from Czechia and surrounding countries, including several attacks, without really breaking a sweat.
We have ordered a total of 200 of these high-end servers from HPE to start with. Just as a matter of interest, the list price of each server in our configuration is around CZK 1.5 million.
On February 23, the first 30 ARM servers arrived and on February 29, we received another 40.

And if you want to see tens of millions of crowns in servers on the move, watch the 4th episode of our WEDOS Vlog.
Asian Expansion: Bangkok, Jakarta, Cyberjaya
The first three ARM servers went to Asia a few days ago, specifically to Bangkok (🇹🇭 Thailand), Jakarta (🇮🇩 Indonesia) and Cyberjaya (🇲🇾 Malaysia). These sites will help to reinforce our presence in the region and also help us filter the growing number of local cyber attacks. Over the last six months, we have seen an increase in L7 attacks from compromised mobile devices using local mobile operator networks.
We carry on with the negotiations – and let’s say that we are well on the way towards:
- 🇮🇳 India (2 sites now, with the possibility of expanding to 6),
- 🇹🇼 Taiwan,
- 🇰🇷 South Korea.
We are addressing other sites as well, but those are still in the beginning stages.
And what’s next for us?
Europe is still a priority for us. We want to create the densest and most reliable infrastructure for web acceleration and cybersecurity. We’ve already established a presence in a lot of countries, others are in the works. With the exception of Belarus and Russia, we want to be everywhere. We will also have multiple locations in important countries.
There is a lot of new sites with a lot of suppliers. Several sites in South America are on the way. We are still a bit stuck there, because it was a problem to find suitable data centers for HPE Moonshot 1500 with 45 physical servers. It’s easier for the HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11 with the ARM processor.
In Asia, we have been able to negotiate new points thanks to good prices and very fast negotiations.
We are satisfied with our presence in North America, where we have 7 reinforced sites (2x HPE Moonshot 1500 in each, i.e. 630 physical servers).
Africa will be more challenging for us, but a couple of locations (e.g. Tunisia, Egypt) are well on their way.
