May 23, 2013 – Non-technical lectures
Thursday belonged to non-technical lectures. In the end, a few more people came than we had hoped for, so we had to find some extra chairs.
About modern datacenter where you have your data – Josef Grill (WEDOS)
We started with a small summary of organizational matters and then Josef Grill started talking about the WEDOS datacenter. In the lecture you will learn how it all started, the basic description of the building and equipment. Most of the information is publicly available on the datacenter’s website, but he also revealed something from behind the scenes. The lecture also included information about planned new products. After the lecture he also answered several questions.

Life of Wedos Customer Support – Jan Jurík (WEDOS)
Mr. Grill was followed by Jan Jurík, Head of Customer Support. He explained how the whole customer support structure works and let the audience have a look into the system. You’ll learn why we prefer to chat, or why it’s not a good idea to talk about technical stuff on the phone. Honza also mentioned the tough internal regulations 🙂

Zuzana Paulinová (also from Best Online Media) focused on Facebook. At the outset, she mentioned the important fact that Facebook’s aging population is becoming potentially interesting to reach. There followed some tips on how to attract this group. A summary of the most common mistakes made by smaller companies was also very interesting. Then followed tips on how to communicate properly via Facebook.

How an e-shop should handle personal data and what to do if it violates the law – Miloš Šnytr (ÚOOÚ)
The lecture of Mr. Miloš Šnyter was supposed to be focused on eshops, but in the end it turned out to be suitable for everyone who has ever saved only one email of a visitor. At the beginning, he quickly summarized the various laws, decrees and regulations that are in force or will be very topical in the future. This part was a bit less interesting, but it is important for the rest of the lecture. So if you are going to watch the lecture, we recommend not to skip the beginning. As time goes on, the lecture gains a decent momentum. At the end, Mr. Šnytr then opened the floor for questions from the participants. Of course the main topic was email spam.

Effective use of Pay Per Post for eshop – Martin Jersák (PlaCla)
Martin Jersák surprised our cameramen a bit. So we have sound in the recording only from 1:15.
We learned how the PlaCla.cz system works and what it can offer in comparison to other forms of advertising. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to ask who the pretty lady is that PlaCla has absolutely everywhere 🙂
He also brought paper pads and pens for all participants on the first day. Thank you 🙂

Jindřich Fáborský set a really fast pace. The barrage of information was incredible. We learned why remarketing affects the visitor’s psyche and how it can be used for further promotion. We have seen several concrete examples of what remarketing looks like in practice and how it can be used effectively.
According to the participants, the workshop that followed was literally a flood of know how.

Jan Kvasnička started by showing the most common mistakes that website owners can make by changing the layout of elements on a page. He continued with examples from practice. Some of them made us laugh. Several recommendations on how to do it right followed. The lecture also included the results of various a/b testing. Participants of the event were also given space for their questions.
Workshop participants were able to watch other demonstrations and even have their websites evaluated.

Are several thousand domains worth it for SEO? – Jan Linhart
Jan Linhart prepared a lecture about what it is like to have a thousand domains with content. It was taken really lightly. Even though we all had a good laugh at it, it had a lot of interesting ideas in it. Especially the presentation with the cultural insert really brought it to a head.
Jan Linhart is the director of SEO Linhart.

May 24, 2013 – Technical lectures
After a long and action-packed night, the second day of lectures began. This time focused on technical topics.
Storage: the ideal storage – Fujitsu Eternus and DX, ViolinServers: maximum efficiency and availability – these are synonyms for Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers – Ivo Doležel (FUJITSU)
Mr. Doležel gave a lecture on Fujitsu products. He mainly picked up the quality of the individual parts, which are manufactured in Europe, and services such as lifetime warranty on non-rotating parts, lease sales and/or configuration tools before shipment. This was followed by an introduction of storage and servers. The comparison of the different hard drive technologies was also quite interesting.

Data storage from the user’s perspective – Martin Sýkora (Data recovery s.r.o.)
DataRecovery s.r.o. brought a lot of exhibits from the past and present to our event. We could see with our own eyes, for example, how the destruction of a hard disk looks like by a pistol shot or by using it as a wedge in a door. You’ll see more in the video itself once it’s ready for YouTube.
The lecture went on for 58 minutes because the questions and answers were really worth it 🙂

Microsoft Infrastructure – Jan Vávra (Microsoft)
A presentation on Microsoft server infrastructure, the benefits and advantages of using this System Center technology. Interesting – from a single PC to a private cloud.
Web: www.microsoft.cz
Hyper V – Helena Jetelová (Microsoft)
The second Microsoft presentation was about the use of Hyper-V virtualization technology and the software future of data centers and storage. We would also like to offer similar services in the future, but we do not have the necessary skilled and experienced colleagues who would be able to operate it reliably.

What Wedos has built since the last DoD – Josef Grill (WEDOS)
Josef Grill’s lecture was rather relaxing about the future of WEDOS. Everything was concluded with a relaxed informal discussion. Until the distribution of gifts that remained after Fujitsu and finally a few dozen WEDOS T-shirts for the friends of the participants who could not come.

The last tour of the datacentre followed, accompanied by Josef Grill.
Conclusion
A lot has happened. We believe we all had a great time and it was fun. Now we just need to get over it 🙂
