12th birthday or a year full of big changes and projects

WEDOS has had another successful year. We grew in the number of services, customers, turnover, servers and colleagues. We are the last big Czech hosting company that is pushing the boundaries. Be it technology (oil cooling) or multinational projects (WEDOS Global). Of course, everything is not going as fast as we would like, but we are moving forward and that is the main thing. And we’re glad you can be there with us.

Open letter to the government or energy poverty is coming

Prime Minister, honourable Government,

let me write my opinion in the form of an open letter.

Prime Minister, you know that we met last year when you visited our company. In January this year I wrote you a letter saying that I was glad you were saying and doing unpopular things. Unfortunately, with the passing of a few months, probably with the upcoming elections, I see it a little differently. It is necessary not to be political, but to solve things. It is necessary to address current problems acutely and openly with the people.

More than 100 WEDOS shareholders will receive a nice dividend this year

On Monday 1. 8. 2022, an ordinary general meeting was held in our second data centre WEDOS DC2, convened by the company’s board of directors. The shareholders were informed about the financial results, the state of assets and agreed to pay a dividend from the profit for 2021.

We have seen an increase in SQLi attacks in the last few days, how WEDOS Global Protection can help us with this

Thanks to central log monitoring, we keep a detailed track of all traffic that goes to our customers’ websites for LowCost, NoLimit, WebSite and WMS services. We can find those under attack very quickly and hide them behind WEDOS Global Protection (if they use our DNS). Most of them are L7 attacks with a large number of requests (someone is simply calling your site with tens to hundreds of thousands of requests per minute). However, the number of SQLi attacks has been increasing in recent days.

Our fans who follow us know that together with POJISTENI.cz we regularly organize competitions and other events. Last year at a meeting it was suggested that we could also create a joint product. My colleagues from Insurance found out what the options were with insurance companies and the easiest to implement was Domain Insurance. However, if there is interest in the product, this is just the beginning. You have something to look forward to;)

Today we have for you a sample DDoS attack on the application layer (L7), which was directed to the websites of one of our customers several times a week. It was interesting that the attack always started at 7:00 in the morning.

Statement on optimization of prices of WMS, VPS, VPS SSD, VPS ON, WEDOS Cloud and dedicated servers and tariff adjustment

Dear Customers, due to a sharp increase in costs, especially electricity prices, we are forced to optimize the prices of our WMS, VPS, VPS SSD, VPS ON, WEDOS Cloud and dedicated server services. For these services, the price of electricity used to be a small cost item, but in recent months this has become the dominant price component. The current prices for these services are a loss for us (the cost of operation is higher than the price at which we sell them), even though we are trying to use energy-saving technologies as much as possible.

We do not increase all prices or items. We even reduce the price of some of them, which is unheard of these days.

Optimization – service price adjustment is based on a thorough analysis of hardware and infrastructure usage. Based on this analysis, we have also increased some parameters for services. Some of this has been made possible by technical progress (upgrading infrastructure, new technologies) and some by natural growth (more connectivity). The new services we offer at a discount can save many of our customers a lot of money.

Price optimization will be carried out for existing customers from 15. June 2022, but only after the subscription period has expired (e.g. if your service expires in six months, you will not pay anything extra during this period). For new services we will perform the optimization from 1. June 2022.

How we have progressed with data storage and management on the 3PAR StoreServ Storage 8450

There’s a lot going on here. We are building our decentralised WEDOS Global network, preparing to launch the first WEDOS Global Protection service on it, and the development of oil cooling is still going ahead, but these are not all big projects. Last year, we migrated our service data to the new 3PAR StoreServ Storage 8450, which was very challenging and we still ran into the occasional problem a few months later. In addition to significant simplification, increased stability and speed, this new solution also opens the way for us to take many services further.
